Description of current flag:
The flag's ratio is 3:5. It was a 7-stripes flag divided horizontally by alternating green and white stripes. At the hoist there were two colums of squares alternating in green and white. This flag, if it ever existed was inspired by the flag of nearby Hanseatic City of Bremen.

Description of banner:
It is a green - white vertical bicolour. The coat of arms, here topped by a red mural crown, is shifted to the top. Beneath the shield in black capitals there is a centred inscription "STADT"(1st line) "OSTERHOLZ-SCHARMBECK"(2nd line)

Coat of arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a blue shield is a silver (=white) bull chained to a silver (=white) pole by a chain of the same colour. Above the bull are three silver (=white) weaver's shuttles in a triangular order. The green base is divided by a silver (=white), wavy fess.
Meaning:
According to source the bull is symbolizing the importance of the life stock market in Scharmbeck. The shuttles are symbolizing the textiles industries of local clothiers while the wavy fess is symbolizing the Scharmbeck creek.
Please note, that according to source chain, pole and shuttles shuld have been golden (=yellow).

Osterholz and Scharmbeck had been united in 1927 and gained city rights in 1929. The Prussian ministry of state granted the coat of arms in 1930.
