The flag's ratio is 3:5. It is a blue over yellow horizontal bicolour. According to Stefan Schwoon the coat of arms is shifted to the hoist.

Description of coat of arms:
Shield Azure, St. Mary and Jesus child both Argent, Jesus nimber Or, St. Mary crowned Or, both robed Argent, St. Mary girded Azure, her coat with bordure of Azure and Or, Jesus standing on her lap, St. Mary sitting on a chest Argent ornamented Or, issuant from both sides of the chest to lilies Or blossomed Argent.
Meaning:
The arms are based on the old seal of Lilienthal subcounty (German: Amt). These in turn were based on the arms of the Cistercian nunnery, founded in 1232 by Gerard von der Lippe, Archbishop of Bremen. St. Mary is the patron saint of the nunnery, the lilies are canting as well as a symbol of St. Mary.
The arms were approved in 1956 by Minister of Interior of Lower Saxony.
