Description of coat of arms:
Shield parted by a barrulet Or into Azure over Gules, over all a goose reguardant Argent, in base a billet Argent.
Meaning:
The colours red, blue and gold are those of Oldenburg. The goose is a canting element. Some say the name of the municipality is derived from Ganter (= gander) and Eer (= earth). There is a legend, that the first settlers let fly a gander and settled down on the place, where he touched the ground. More likely it is however derived from Gandrik, who established the settlement in the 9th century, and from earth. The billet is representing the many local brickyards and the lime stone factory of Bookholzberg.
The arms were approved in 1954 by Minister of Interior of Lower Saxony.
