Meaning:
In 1699 Count Johann Philipp of Isenburg founded the settlement Welschdorf, aka Philippsdorf, for Huguenots. The settlement was renamed to Neu-Isenburg and became a possession of Hesse in 1816. It gained city rights in 1894. The arms were granted by Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig of Hesse on occasion of the cities bicentennial (no date given). The dexter half is alluding to the stripes of the lion in the arms of Hesse. The black bars are taken from the arms of the Isenburg kin. The colours red and gold were taken from the arms of the Lords of Münzenberg-Falkenstein.
