Shield parted per pale of Azure and Or, two lions rampant respectant armed and tongued Gules in counterchanged tinctures, plain base in counterchanged tinctures.
Meaning:
The lions are taken from the arms of the former Uslar County. The lions are based the lion of the Principality of Lüneburg from the arms of the Welfen kin as successors of the Counts of Northeim. The addition of a 2nd lion in counterchanged tinctures is mere artwork. The colours of arms and flag are those of the Duchy of braunschweig, also ruled by the welfen kin.

The flag was approved on 19 September 1952 by Minister of Interior of Lower Saxony. The arms were approved on 2 July 1948 by Minister of Interior of Lower Saxony.
