It is a yellow-blue-white vertical tricolour. The coat of arms is shifted towards the top.

Shield Azure a lion sejant Or, armed and tongued Gules grabbing hold of a rock issuant Argent.
Meaning:
The rock is canting, as the name of the town means "high rock". The lion is a unique example of the Palatine lion and was already displayed on the oldest town seal on a Spanish shield and on a coloured painting made by Philipp Apian (1531 - 1589). The lion is symbolising the rule of the Wittelsbach kin since the end of the 14th century. The pattern changed in details but the lion was only once (1811) depicted as crowned.

The banner is used without approval. The arms were granted on 29 November 1540 by Palatine Count Friedrich III, also being elector, and confirmed by Emperor Karl VII Albert in 1743.
