Shield Gules a tube well Or with squarish basin, charged with three 6-point stars Argent and water of the same spilling out of the tube.
Meaning:
The arms are canting. A well (German: Brunnen) already appeared on small seals between the end of the 15th century and the middle of the 16th century. The image of the current pattern was painted by Otto Hupp and was based on a semi-official painting from 1812. The stars in between disappeared, were however restored sometime before 1965. The market town had been capital of the Lordship of Breiteneck. Its owners changed frequently until 1624, when it was acquired by the Count of Tilly, a crude Catholic general during the 30-Years War. Since 1631 the lordship was under direct imperial rule. It was transformed into a district (German: Amt) by the Electors of Bayern in 1792.
