Shield Gules with base wavy Argent, a badger passant Argent armed Sable, in chief an inescutcheon quartered of Argent and Sable.
Meaning:
More precisely the complete legs of the badger are Sable, not only his claws. The castle was acquired by the Burgraves of Nürnberg in 1280. After the 30-Years-War (1618 - 1648) it was seat of a district (Amt) of the Margraves of Brandenburg-Bayreuth and was mentioned as a market town. The first seals from 1682 and 1747 displayed the current pattern in two different shields in pale. Badger (German: Dachs) and the base wavy representing a creek (German: Bach) together are canting. The inescutcheon displays the family arms of the Zollern kin. The tinctures were amended in 1965.
