Walldürn City Banner

Description of banner:
It is a red - white - green vertical tricolour. The white stripe is broader. The coat of arms is shifted to the top. Please note that the image within in source is an old B/W photo. Thus I chose the pattern as given by Stadler, which has only slightly changed (double row of pinnacles, different number of windows).

Walldürn Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The silver (= white) shield has a green base. On the base stands a red embattled castle with an embattled tower, flanked by two green trees. Above the castle is an impending red, bendy inescutcheon, displaying a silver (= white) wheel with six spokes.
Meaning:
Walldürn was mentioned as a city in 1291 by Baron Ruprecht II of Dürn. In 1292, finally in 1294, the city was acquired by the archbishops of Mainz, symbolized by the inescutcheon. The oldest seal dates from around 1400 - prints exist since 1419 - and shows the castle of the Barons of Dürn between two trees, making the arms canting (Wall is Wald = wood). The name had been "Waldtdürn" in 1423. The general pattern has not changed since, but the colours differed widely.

The decision about the banner was made by a committee of citizens on 29 May 1926. The current colours were officially fixed in 1960. Banner and coat of arms were registered on 25 November 1960 by Minister of Interior of Baden-Württemberg.
