Gießen District , state Hesse
banner approved on 25 November 1990
details based on the presentations of Klaus Günther with kind permission
The municipality flags are shown mostly in banner form in Hesse.
Jörg Majewski,
Shield parted per bend sinister wavy, above right Gules an axe Argent in pale, beneath left Azure a vine leaf Or.
Meaning:
The axe is taken from the old arms of Elkerhausen (shield Gules three axes Argent ordered 2:1). The division of the shield resembles a creek and is canting for the latter part of the name (Bach), whereas the vine leaf is canting for the first part of the name (Wein). For Elkershausen see: Stadler 1967, p.29
The arms were approved on 12 July 1983.
