Bad Kissingen Coat of Arms

French shield Argent a castle Gules masoned Sable with port and windows Sable and portcullis Argent, topped by three embattled towers of the same, the central tower with dome Azure and charged with an inescutcheon parted per fess of Sable and Argent and charged with a griffin's claw in counterchanged tinctures.
Meaning:
The Counts of Henneberg granted city rights before 1280. Nevertheless there had not been any proper city seals before the 16th century. All seals displayed the castle with the inescutcheon, displaying the arms of the Stewards of Henneberg. The tinctures are proven since the 16th century, but the shape of the castle and parts of the tinctures changed in detail through the centuries. The current city seals are based on a painting from 1956. Kissingen gained the title of a spa in 1883.
