Shield parted per pale; at dexter Argent a demi-eagle Gules, armed and tongued Or with cloverstems Or, couped per pale; at sinister quartered of Argent and Sable.
Meaning:
After the Lords of Kotzau, the local rulers, had become extinct, their possessions were acquired by the Margraves of Brandenburg-Bayreuth in 1660. They introduced the first town seal in 1665, displaying the current pattern under a princely coronet. In 1819 the quartered shield was displayed in the tinctures of Bayern, white and blue, and the tincture of the eagle was changed from red to black and the coronet was omitted. In 1836 the tinctures of the quartered shield had been red and blue. The original tinctures were restored by Otto Hupp (1925).

The banner was never approved officially. The arms were granted by the Margraves of Brandenburg-Bayreuth in 1665.
