Shield Argent, a tonsure proper surrounded by a wreath of hair Sable.
Meaning:
The first city seal from 1463 with prints since 1482 displayed a human figure behind a picket fence. Later depictions of arms since 1535 confirm that the human should be seen as a clergyman (German: Pfaffe (pejorative)). The fence was interpreted as a yard (German: Hof). That ensemble had thus been canting. The fence also might symbolise a fortification around the settlement, which was built after 1460 and confirmed in 1484. The second seal with prints from 1678 displayed two lions rampant respectant, supporting a disc. The current pattern is known from rolls of arms since 1583 and as a local symbol from 1684.
