Shield Azure; St. Peter and St. Paul, both dressed Argent, nimbed Or and holding a book Gules with paged Or in their left hands; St. Peter (on the dexter side) holding a key Or in his right hand; St. Paul (on the sinister side) holding a sword Argent hilted Or in his right hand; in front of them in base an inescutcheon Sable with bend Argent, charged with a stepped bendlet Gules.
Meaning:
Since the 16th century Elze market town displayed St. Peter and St. Paul statant with their attributes on seals and boundary stones. Since 1650, when Elze was denoted as a city, they were depicted couchant respectant. Since 1939 the old posture was restored and the inescutcheon was added, displaying the arms of the Lords of Elze.
These arms were approved in 1956 by Minister of Interior of Lower Saxony.
