Shield Or, three kettle hooks reversed palewise in fess.
Meaning:
The settlement had been a dominion of the Counts of Hohenlohe. It gained the rank of a market town in 1316 and of a city in 1323. In 1399 the Burgraves of Nürnberg, later on the branch line of the Marquesses of Brandenburg-Ansbach, acquired the city. The oldest seal was known since 1490. The current arms are based on this seal. In the local language a kettle hook is called "Craile". The arms are thus canting. The arms had been always the same. The colours are known since the 19th century.
