Shield Azure a bend Or, charged with three 6-point stars Gules.
Meaning:
The city arms probably are derived from the family arms of thre Lords Güß on Güssenberg. King Ludwig the Bavarian granted the rights of a market town in 1327 and of a city in 1330 on their behalf. The first city seal, known by a print from 1404, displayed the same pattern with just one star. The number of stars was augmented up to three in the 19th century, proven by seals and paintings since 1808. The tinctures are those of the family arms mentioned above.

The flag colours are tradional. The arms are derived from seals and are in use since the 14th century.
