Description of banner:
It is a yellow - blue vertical bicolour. The coat of arms is shifted to the top. Note that in Hauptsatzung the denotion is "flag", but with a coat of arms shifted to the top it is probably a banner.

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per fess. Above in a silver(=white) field is a red, statant, double queued lion, armed, tongued and crowned blue. Below in a blue field is a golden(=yellow) bell.
Meaning:
According to source the lion is symbolizing the counts and dukes of Berg, the former rulers. Overath had been capital of Bergian Amt of Steinbach. The bell is symbolizing the local 16th and 17th century bell foundries of the area.

The banner was approved by minister of interior of Northrine-Westphalia in 1967, the coat of arms by Oberpräsident of Prussian province of Westphalia in 1938.
