Shield Argent; an estate Gules, having four round towers; in chief an impending inescutcheon Or with chief Gules.
Meaning:
The arms are based on the oldest seal of the city, which is known from 1306. The seal may be made before the granting of the city rights in 1300. The inescutcheon displays the arms of the Counts of Falkenstein-Münzenberg. The house was built in 1160 by Kuno von Münzenberg. In a later seal, dating from 1540, the small arms are quartered with the arms of the Counts of Solms, the rulers at the time. Besides these arms there is a seal from around 1800 that shows a different composition. That seal displays two shields, one with the house, the other with a mitre. The arms were officially granted on 1 May 1928, when the old smaller shield was restored.
