Mittenwald Flag

It is a green-white-green horizontal triband with centred arms (see left image above), sometimes with an additional yellow Gothic inscription "Mittenwald" (see right image above) above the shield.

Mittenwald Coat of Arms

Shield Gules three fir trees Vert issuant from a valley Argent, the trunk of the central fir is superimposed by a negro's head Sable crowned Or.
Meaning:
The arms were granted by Berthold of Wehingen, Bishop of Freising (1382 - 1410). It is described as a coloured secret seal, the coronet had been red then. The head as a symbol of the bishopric was replaced in 1819 by an inescutcheon, parted per bend of white and blue. The old arms were restored in 1892 with a golden coronet.

The original arms were granted on 20 June 1407. Banner and current arms were granted by Prince Regent Luitpold of Bayern on 2 December 1892. Flag and banner were adopted on 5 December 1946 by the local council and confirmed on 19 August 1986 by district governor (Regierungspräsident) of Oberbayern.
