Stein Coat of Arms

Shield quartered, 1st and 4th quarter Argent a bearded man dressed Sable with white collar and beret holding a black hammer in his right hand, 2nd and 3rd quarter Azure two pencils Argent in saltire.
Meaning:
The bearded man is taken from the family arms of the Barons of Faber. Prince Regent Luitpold granted their arms in 1898 to the industrialists of Count Faber-Castell. Also the pencils are alluding to this family, as Faber-Castell is the world's biggest manufacturer of pencils, crayons, fountain pens, ball point pens and all kinds of stationery. The production of pencils was started in the 2nd half of the 18th century. The bearded man is also representing the former hammer mill of the city.
On the variant the 2nd and 3rd quarter display the bearded man but with red beret, golden-red collar and red hands. The 1st and 4th quarters display the pencils but red-golden in a Bavarian blue quarter.
