Shield Gules two fish Argent finned Or in pale.
Meaning:
It is assumed that Forchheim had city rights since around 1250. The arms are originated from the late 13th century. The trouts (German: Forellen, local language: Forchen) are canting. The pattern remained basically the same and was displayed first on the oldest city seal around 1280. Minor details were changed since 1559, as wavy lines on the shield and an additional "V" for "Vorchheim" in the 17th century. The background colour had been red since 1555. In the 19th century it had been blue for a short time. Between the 16th and 18th century the shield had been parted per fess of red and yellow. The current flag colours are based on that version.
