It is a red over white over red horizontal triband with ratio approx. 1:4:1 and a narrow white stripe at the top- and bottom-edge. The coat of arms is in the white stripe and shifted to the hoist.

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per pale. The dexter half displays in a silver (= white) field a facetted, throughout, black cross. The sinister side displays in a blue field a lion horizontally striped silver (= white) and red, armed and crowned golden (= yellow).
Meaning:
The lion is the Hessian lion and is symbolizing that the territory belonged to Hesse from 1816 until 1866 and again since 1945. The cross is the symbol of the Principality (/Fürststift/) of Fulda, which had been established in 744 and of the Bishopric of Fulda, which had been established in 1752.
