Coat of Arms

Shield Azure, issuant from base a mount Vert, charged with an inescutcheon Or and crowned by three towers Argent roofed Gules; the inescutcheon is charged with a lion rampant Gules holding a lantern black, the chief of the inescutcheon is charged with a branch Vert with three roses Gules.
Meaning:
The oldest seal of the city, at that time still named Walberg, from 1289 and shows three towers on a trefoiled arch, the single arches charged with two stars and a rose in the central arch. The second seal is known from the early 14th century, which shows again three towers, but now in the base a lion and a rose branch. The latter two were later placed in a shield, and the above arms appeared for the first time in 1689. The lion holds a small light, i.e. the lantern, (German: Licht) as a canting element. The meanings of the lion and the roses are not known.

Fürstenhagen Coat of Arms

Shield Argent, an eradicated oak Vert with four acorns Or, superimposed by an inescutcheon Gules charged with a prince's coronet.
Meaning:
The prince's coronet (German: Fürstenhut) is a canting element. The oak probably is representing local oak groves. The arms were designed by Richard Assmann (1887-1965)
The arms were approved on 10 July 1958 by Minister of Interior of Hesse.
