Shield Azure, in chief a facetted 6-point star Or, in base a crescent recumbent Or with face.
Meaning:
In 1320 Count Ludwig of Oettingen granted city rights. The first city seal was announced in 1334 and its existence is proven by prints since 1340. The pattern was considered to be canting, meaning "home of the moon". It remained basically the same through the centuries. Siebmacher (1605) painted red charges on a white background. Later arms had a red background. Blue prevailed since 1821 and was also shown on an image from 1835 in the local church.
