Shield parted per pale, at dexter Or two stonemason's hammers Sable in saltire, at sinister Azure a fleur-de-lis Argent.
Meaning:
The hammers are alluding to the local stonemasonry. The fleur-de-lis is representing the Benedictine Metten Monastery, founded around 766. It had great importance for the economic and cultural development of the town. The fleur-de-lis is alluding to Emperor Karl the Great, who is said to be the founder of the monastery. The fleur-de-lis is said to display his apocryphal arms. The arms of the monastery since the 15th century displayed the double headed eagle of the German Empire and six fleur-de-lis symbolising France Ancient.
