Shield quartered of Argent and Sable, over all in centre a clay jug Gules.
Meaning:
The existence of the arms, assumed since the middle of the 14th century, had been proven by an architectural sculpture from 1470, a seal from 1511 and paintings from 1581. First the city used the arms of the Zollern kin with crest. The jug was added in 1581 and is a distinguishing mark. It is symbolising the famous jugs from Creußen and is also considered to be punning, as "Kreus" had been a local name for clay jugs. Shape and tincture of the jug changed frequently during the 19th century.
