The Cyprus Turkish Football Association was established on 29 October 1955.
KTFF being not affiliated with either FIFA or UEFA, the national team of Northern Cyprus was once allowed to play against FIFA-affiliated teams in specific circumstances - for instance, the Islamic Games organized in Turkey in 1960. This tolerance was dropped in 1983, following the proclamation of the Turkish Republic of of Northern Cyprus. Since then, Northern Cyprus entered different "alternative" competitions, such as the FIFI Wild Cup 2006 (Champions), the ELF World Cup 2006 (Champions), the VIVA World Cup 2012 (2nd), the ConIFA World Football Cup 2016 (3rd) and the ConIFA European Football Cup 2017 (2nd).
