The difference between courage and foolishness is often quite slight, and since (to quote an old English proverb "fools rush in where angels fear to tread") I must be incredibly foolish. Not that it is an unattractive flag, just almost impossible for me to blazon accurately, but I'll give it a try all the same:
Per fess wavy Argent and Azure surmounted by a cliff Vert issuant from the Dexter that in turn surmounted by a base wavy of the Second carrying two barrulets wavy of the First.
Christopher Southworth

The emblem shows the Lago Maggiore and the Monte Gambarogno after which the new commune was named. The fractions of Gambarogno are scattered on the northeastern bank of the lake and on the mountain.

On 25 April 2010 the new commune was formed of Caviano, Contone, Gerra (Gambarogno), Indemini, Magadino, Piazzogna, San Nazzaro, Sant'Abbondio and Vira (Gambarogno) (see below).

In 1932 permission was given to the former commandery to use the cross of the Order in its armorial shield. The officiating pastor of Contone is, through his office, a chaplain of magistral grace of the Order of Malta. von Volborth (1981)
