Argent a cross gyronny throughout Gules and Sable.
(Note: This is not a cross counterchanged as sometimes stated, but is [in heraldic language] a
cross gyronny, however, in truth the difference is not easy to spot – although it has to be
said that a such difference is important. The way you can tell is that the colours on a cross gyronny meet
at a 45° angle.)

The affiliation of Altnau to the Constance Cathedral Chapter (red cross) has been documented since the 12th century, and since 1471 the bailiwick was in the hands of the city of Konstanz (black cross). Altnau has had its coat of arms since 1950.
