The emblem was derived from the the municipality's seal from the 19th century. St Martin is the patron saint of the Galgenen church.
Chris, Switzerland is rich in streams and rivers. Perhaps the people felt sorry for St Christopher, who would have to carry the boy Jesus across many waters.
