Location: Holyrood, Newfoundland.
Burgee: Pennant 3:5 (image). "The wheel, a
focal point in the Club, lends itself as a symbolic form associated with
powerboats. The seagull, showing its wing as a wind-filled sail, echoes the
harnessing of the wind involved in sailing, while creating rhythm in its
movement with the sea. The navy and yellow-gold colours, chosen for their
nautical association, . . .”
"The Commodore’s flag shall be the Club’s
burgee, swallow-tailed.”
“The Terra Nova Yacht Club traces its
roots to the Bowring Sailing Club established in the early 1960’s by the Bowring
family for their employees, family, and friends. In 1963 the Bowring Sailing
Club acquired the property that currently houses the TNYC clubhouse in Holyrood
. . . By the late 1960’s the Bowring Sailing Club at Holyrood had disbanded . .
. In 1970 the Bowring family donated the club building to the newly formed Terra
Nova Sailing Club under the leadership of its first commodore, Frank O’Connor. .
. . In 1963 the Terra Nova Sailing Club changed its name to the Terra Nova Yacht
Club.
