The flag of the Bastarache dit Basque family website. The flag is © Association of Bastarache, Bastrash and Basque, 2002 All rights reserved. The association is based in Sillery Quebec.
The flag might have been designed by a heraldist named Renaud Brochu, from Québec, who designed the family coat of arms.
The tricolore probably refers to the French-Basque origins of the family.
The Acadian star/flag probably symbolises the fact that the family ancestor,
Jean Bastarache dit le Basque, born around 1658 in Bayonne (French Basque
country), arrived in the 1680s in Port-Royal Acadie and that several
descendants still live in the Canadian Maritimes. The blue fleur-de-lys on
white probably represents the descendants of the refugees who settled in
Quebec after the 1755 deportation and the green lauburu on red is an obvious
reference to the family nom dit (nickname) "dit Basque" and
Basque origin. There are also descendants in Louisiana, so perhaps the star
and fleur-de-lys also refers to them, since these two emblems are on the Cajun
flag/flag of Acadia. The black B presumably stands for the family's name(s).
