The flag design was initiated in 1968 and was formally accepted by Council in
June of 1969. The design boldly incorporates the outline of the Scarborough
Bluffs which rise to a height of 300 feet above Lake Ontario, featuring
the Maple Leaf symbolizing the Dominion of Canada in the centre. This flag will
always be flown on the flag poles of the Scarborough Civic Centre which houses
the Municipal Offices. The Borough of Scarborough has a population of 400,000
and is the largest in area of the six municipalities comprising Metropolitan
Toronto.
