The colors of the stripes symbolize the three races that colonized the city, the black, white, and red (Indian),
the same symbolism as the state flag. The white stripe is wider because
white people represent more than 75 percent of the population. The triangle represents the Holy Trinity,
the blue color representing the sky. The stars represent the directions taken by the colonizers (bandeirantes)
who left the city for the interior (north, northwest and southwest). In the center is the coat of
arms of the city. The smoking snake is the symbol of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force (FEB), the Brazilian
force that fought at the Second World War. A great part of the soldiers came from this city.
