The municipality of Santa Terezinha do Progresso (2,428 inhabitants in 2019; 11,965 ha) is located 700 km west of Florianópolis.

Santa Terezinha do Progresso was established in the 1940s by immigrants from Rio Grande do Sul of Italian origin.
The district of Santa Terezinha do Progresso was established, within the municipality of Campo Erê by State Law No. 734 promulgated on 20 July 1988, to be elevated a municipality by State Law No. 9,895 promulgated on 19 July 1995.
