The municipality of Lontras (10,248 inhabitants in 2010; 19,398 ha) is located 180 km west of Florianópolis.

The flag of Lontras is horizontally divided green-yellow-blue with a white
triangle placed along the hoist and spreading beyond the flag's center, charged
with the municipal coat of arms.

The animals represented on the arms must be otters ("lontras"),
recalling the origin of the name of the municipality.
