The municipality of Capão Alto (2,753 inhabitants in 2010; 133,528 ha) is located on the border with Rio Grande do Sul, 270 km west of Florianópolis.

The flag of Capão Alto is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 26 promulgated on
20 May 1997.
Article 1.
The flag of the municipality of Capão Alto
shall have the design specified in Appendix 1 [unavailable] of this Law.
Article 2.
The components of the flag have the following meaning.
I - Blue
symbolizes the sky and rivers.
II - Yellow symbolizes the soil's resources.
III - White symbolizes peace.
IV - The coat of arms of the municipality, as
prescribed by Law No. 7 promulgated on 23 January 1997.

the coat of arms have the following meaning.
I - The rider with the lasso and
the golden cow symbolize the Gaúcha tradition and the municipality's resources
in livestock.
II - The tractor plowing a field represents the municipality's
big farmers and smallholders.
III - The maize and soybean plants symbolize
the region's predominant crops.
IV - The blue jackdaw and the pine nuts, on
top, symbolize araucaria, the region's predominant tree.
V - The dates are
the years of creation of the district and of the municipality, respectively.
