The municipality of Balneário Barra do Sul (8,430 inhabitants in 2010; 11,128 ha) is located 170 km north of Florianópolis.

The flag of the municipality of Balneário Barra do Sul is prescribed by 
 Municipal Law No. 60 promulgated on 8 May 2009.
Article 3.
The flag 
 shall be 90 cm in width on 1.30 m in length.
Article 4.
In the flag's 
 upper part, covering 25% of its width, a red horizontal stripe symbolizes the 
 municipality's vitality.
Article 5.
In the flag's lower part, 
 covering 25% of its width, a white horizontal stripe with a black grid 
 symbolizing a net, the fishers' working tool.
Article 6.
In the 
 center, covering 50% of the width, a blue horizontal stripe symbolizes the sea, 
 the rivers, the lagoons and the resources they provide.
Article 7.
 The coat of arms placed in the flag's center shall be of 28 cm in length on 33 
 cm in width.

The coat of arms of the municipality of 
 Balneário Barra do Sul is prescribed by Municipal Law No. 57 promulgated on 28 
 March 1994.
Article 2.
The elements of the coat of arms graphically 
 represent features of Balneário, as follows.
§1 - Six yellow stars 
 symbolizing the communities of Linguado, Conquista, Pinheiros, Costeira, 
 Salinas and Brasília.
§2 - A gray stone wall symbolizing the stone piers 
 providing access to the sea.
§3 - The symbols of industry, golden yellow, 
 and of commerce, white.
§4 - A golden yellow stylized sun, symbolizing 
 pleasure, divine light and wealth.
§5 - Remédios Island, moss green, 
 symbolizing one of the municipality's main tourist hotspots.
§6 - A red, 
 white and gray boat, symbolizing the fisher's means of transport, fishing being 
 one of the municipality's main sources of income.
§7 - The sea, represented 
 by three median blue waves, symbolizing a main source of income for Balneário.
 §8 - The slhouette of an athlete holding a surf board, symbolizing the 
 municipality's potential for the practice of watersports.
§9 - Golden yellow 
 sand, symbolizing medicinal resources.
§10 - Two moss green branches 
 symbolizing agriculture.
§11 - A symbol of the Azorean tradition and 
 cattle-breeding.
