The municipality of Ouro (7,272 inhabitants in 2019; 20,623 ha) is located 400 km west of Florianópolis.

Ouro (meaning "gold"), situated on the banks of the Rio do Peixe (River of
Fish), was founded on 20 October 1906.… It gained its administrative independence
on 23 January 1963, and Mayor Dr. Nelson de Souza Infeld was inaugurated on
7 April 1963. The Municipality of Ouro has an area of 209 Km² and is located
in the mid-west of Santa Catarina. The population is 6,611 inhabitants.
