The municipality of São José das Missões (2,720 inhabitants in 2010; 9,807
ha) is located 350 km north of Porto Alegre.
The district of São José was
established within Palmeira das Missões by Municipal Law No. 326 promulgated on
28 November 1956. The municipality of São José das Missões was established by
State Law No. 9,552 promulgated on 20 March 1992 and inaugurated on 1 January
1993.
