The municipality of Montauri (1,453 inhabitants in 2019; 8,208 ha) is located
230 km north of Porto Alegre.
Montauri was first settled in 1893 by a J.
Ruivo, of unknown origin. In 1904, the families of José Dalacort, Ângelo Colet,
Ângelo Vial, Mario Benati and Vitor Spada, all Italian immigrants coming from
Nova Trento (today, Flores da Cunha), re-settled the area. Henrique Nardi
established in 1910 the settlement's first shop. Augusto Provenci and Adelino
Rizzoto set up a forge and Gigio Formaier set up a cheese farm. The village that
emerged in Linha José Bonifacio was incorporated to Guaporé and renamed to
Montauri by Municipal Act No. 51 issued on 21 October 1926, as a tribute to José
Montauri de Aguiar Leitão, the civil engineer who divided the area into "linhas"
The district of Montauri was established on 1 July 1936.
The municipality of
Montauri was established by State Law No. 8,607 promulgated on 9 May 1988,
separating from Serafina Corrêa and Guaporé.

The flag of Montauri, designed by Marilleda Fioravanço Nardi,
is composed of four letters "M"; for the municipality's initial. In the center,
a disk represents the world where we live: name of the municipality, date of its
emancipation, and the state.
Green is a symbol of honor, civility, courtesy,
abundance and glee. White is a symbol of peace, friendship, work, prosperity,
purity and religious feeling.

The flag of CRCM Montauri is white with a celestial blue stripe on the top
and bottom, separated from a white field by a thinner black stripe, charged in
the center with the club's emblem inscribed in a black circle surrounded on each
side by three horizontal dark yellow stripes, the central longer.
