The municipality of Herveiras (2,954 inhabitants in 2010; 11,830 ha) is
located 220 km north-west of Porto Alegre.
Herveiras was elevated to the
5th district of Santa Cruz do Sul in 1909. The municipality of Herveiras was
established by Municipal Law No. 10,640 promulgated on 28 December 1995,
separating from Sinimbu.

The flag of Herveiras is horizontally divided blue-white-green (1:2:1) with a
red fimbriation between the stripes, charged in the center with the municipal
coat of arms inscribed in a black ring.
