The municipality of Camargo (2,726 inhabitants in 2016; 13,807 ha) is located
270 km of Porto Alegre.
Camargo was settled in the 1910s by Italian
immigrants, who met a Caboclo nicknamed Camargo. The name was reused for the
river and the settlement that emerged nearby.
