The name of the city remembers the Empress Tereza Cristina. The flag is a tricolor,
red, white, and blue, with the coat of arms in the center. The motto in the coat of arms
is Sub digitum dei (under the finger of God). The "Finger of God" is the name of a curious
mountain, which also appears in the state flag.
