According to Municipal Law 318 (found at the same site), the
flag is 14 x 20 units, sky blue (azul-celeste), divided into quadrants by a
white cross, representing the Christian spirit of the people. The vertical
arm of the cross, 8 units wide, is for the city proper and has the municipal
coat of arms on it representing the municipal government. The horizontal
arm is 4 units wide and represents the radiation of municipal authority
throughout the territory. The blue field represents the spring sky, as well
as the usual noble pseudo-heraldic virtues
ascribed to blue in Brazilian
blazons (likewise for the white). The coat of arms, 7 units high, contains
a bishop's miter and pastoral staff with a cattle-bell in base, a dexter
flanche with the red triangle of Minas Gerais and a blue five-pointed star,
and a sinister flanche with an open hand and a rancher's hunting horn. The
shield is surrounded on right and left by stalks of sugar cane. The date on
the scroll, flanking the name, is 30 December 1962.
