The flag is a vertical triband of blue, red, and green, the official colors
of the municipality, with the coat of arms on the center. The coat of arms
was instituted by law no. 88 of 6 September 1967. It consists of a crown in
the form of a medieval tower, symbolizing solidity and power; a star
representing the single district of which the municipality is composed; a
steel crucible in the form of a shield, symbolizing the steel industry; two
branches representing the laurels of victory; a scroll with the words Confiança, Trabalho e Progresso
(Confidence, Work, and Progress); and a terrestrial globe flanked by two stylized human figures,
symbolizing the union of the people and technology.
