On 16 November 2008 a new political party was launched in South Africa.
The Congress of the People (COPE) was formed by a number of former high
ranking members of the ruling African National Congress (ANC). The
party later unveiled its logo and election manifesto. The party's
vision for South Africa is for "a democratic, inclusive, prosperous
country which shuns all racial, ethnic, gender, narrow chauvinistic
stereotypes and prejudices in favour of a caring society, where shared
national identity and pride are deeply rooted; and where the freedoms of
the people are untrammeled by a selfish political leadership; and where
as a country we are at peace with our neighbours and the world".
The logo of the party comprises a circle with a green cross through it
with the colours of the South African national flag on each of the four
sides. The logo comprises a outer black ring, fimbriated in white. The
green saltire in the centre has black and yellow arrow-like triangles
pointing to the centre in the top and bottom quarters, with similar
blue and white, and red and white arrow-like triangles in the left and
right quarters respectively.
The flag of the party has a yellow field with the logo in the upper
centre, under which is the party acronym and full name of the party in
black.
