There is a description of a quite different flag for the Emirate of Bayhan [Beihan],
a state of the former Federation of South Arabia, in Tom Henighan's book,
"Coming of age in Arabia: a memoir of Aden before the terror." (Manotick, Ont:
Penumbra Press, 2004). The author was the American vice-consul in Aden from 1957
to 1959. He visited the Emirate in 1959, and was at a fort in the Wadi Mablaqa
when he noticed this flag:
"I looked up and saw a flag flying from a short pole, a dark green and
blue ensign decorated with a white star and a white scimitar, framed by two
white horizontal lines. The flag, representing as I was told, the Bayhan
Emirate, was attractive..." (p.216)
Perhaps this flag was actually the ensign for a unit of the Federal Army or the
Aden Protectorate Levies?
