Reservation established in 1891
Named after Santos Manuel, a respected leader and Chief.
Location: in San Bernardino County, North of the City of San Bernardino and a Town of Highland, at the foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains.
One of the richest tribes in California and one of the biggest employers in San Bernardino County - over 2,500 non-Indian people. Contributes millions of dollars to the surrounding communities and to the non-gaming Indian Nations around the State as well. Their political contributions exceeded $ 500,000 per member per year.
Population: ~74 plus ~85 living outside the reservation
Area: 658 acres
Tribal Chairman: Henry Duro - since 2007

The tribe has a new flag, in use since 2007.

The SMBMI is using two flags, logo on white and logo on black background. It
seems that the black flag is used in more ceremonial
purposes.
