Here is another unrecognized tribe in Alabama - The Kusa Nunahi Tribal Band
of Cherokee Indians, based in Guntersville.
The flag: As far as I can
see, the hoist and bottom have black borders, but the fly and top have red
borders limited from the rest of red color with thin black lines.
Our
Kusa Nunahi Tribal Flag incorporates our Tribal Seal 'Stars and Turtle' on a red
field. The Turtle's (Terrapin's) back design reflects the zig-zagged 'Blue
Hills' (Appalachian Mountains) of our ancestral Homeland in the now Southeastern
United States. The Seven pointed star represents the historic Cherokee clans and
the smaller stars are our descendant clans. The Kusa Nunahi tribe is unique and
singularly distinct among Cherokee Bands in the fact that we are the only Band
whose enrolled members are all directly blood-related as opposed to a
'collective of solely culturally-relevant individuals'. The year '1806' is
significant to us because it is when our ancestor John Gadoga Thompson
officially became Cherokee nation tribal 'Beloved Man' and when assumed the new
name 'The Standing' (Gadoga).
